The city of Barcelona has a valuable cultural and historical heritage accumulated over the centuries. It has more than 56 museums covering a wide range of topics such as culture, art, science, history, sport and entertainment. Some of them even exhibit mummies from ancient Egypt. The museums are quite popular and receive more than 23 million visitors every year.

One museum worth highlighting is the sports museum of the Barcelona Football Club, which exceeds a million and a half visitors a year, second only to the Dalí Museum, which is located in the neighboring city of Figueres. The Museum of History of the city of Barcelona, the Joan Miró Foundation and the Sagrada Familia basilica complete (in that order) the list of the most visited museums in Catalonia in the past year.
